Ceramic Knife Sharpener
Ceramic cutting tools such as a ceramic knife sharpener has long been a favourite of chefs from all over the world. They prove that there are many advantages to using a ceramic knife sharpener over other electric knife sharpener we usually see in the market that are made of steel.
Ceramic knives are rust-free, stainless, durable, and strong enough to cut the heaviest slabs of meat. Ceramics don’t leave a metallic taste to the knives that can be passed on to the fruits or vegetables you’re cutting. However, ceramic knives, as with stell knives, need sharpening over time.
The best way to sharpen a ceramic knife is with the use of a ceramic knife sharpener. Ceramic knives can’t be sharpened the same way a metal knife is honed. This is because ceramic is harder than most metals. A silicon carbide or a diamon-coated material is needed for sharpening ceramic knives.
Some people choose carbide, which is stronger than ceramic but softer than diamond. While other prefer diamonds due to its hardness, a diamond can scratch surfaces, and a carbide ceramic knife sharpener will still be needed to work out the scratches.
A manual ceramic knife sharpener may need some lubrication such as honing oil or water, but some people still prefer to use this. Using a ceramic knife sharpener can be tricky, so it’s best to use the same technique that previously worked every time you need to sharpen your ceramic knives.
A ceramic knife sharpener wheel is sometimes used by people who prefer manual sharpening. This is done in almost the same way a manual metal knife sharpener is operated, but with less handwork exerted.
If you are new to using ceramic knives, or have recently received a wedding present which includes a set of ceramic knives, then you need to do a little research on how to use ceramics in general, as this material is very much different from the metal knives you have grown accustomed to.
Ceramic blades are known for their natural resiliency. They knives may need some serious sharpening after every few years or so. One thing worth mentioning about ceramic blades is that the sharpness of the blades lasts much longer than those of metallic knives.
You can prevent resistive cutting which is very annoying especially at rush hours where you need to be somewhere at a specific time and your knives just won’t cooperate.
