Clay or ceramic tiles HELP !!!!?
I saw these fantastic dishes in a restaurant and need to know what kind of dishes that are … mud glass / ceramic? need them! Can anyone help? Ps, I asked the restaurant does not want to know .. here are the pictures, http://www.flickr.com/photos/32091043 @ N07 pleaaaase Help /? 1 = Registered
They seem made pottery by hand, perhaps from a small local place. Sorrycan't help.
Is it possible to take allready glazed/finished mugs and plates, paint over them, glaze them and use them?
I’m wanting to create a neat look on a big-ish scale, for cheap… am wondering if one could paint (spray paint?) over old mugs, glaze them and use them? I don’t exactly know how to go about it…
It’s a product by Delta and the name of it is “Perma Enamel”.
You use it on already glazed and fired pieces to create new designs. It air drys so you don’t have to bake it in your home oven or kiln. You can put either a matte sealer on it or a gloss sealer and after it cures for 48 to 60 hours it is food safe and you can even wash it. I bought mine at Michaels.
I have so many hobbies that it looks like I’m the art demonstrator for a half a dozen companies. I think I even have a book on this.
Yes, i just checked, the name of the book is PAINTING ON PORCELAIN & CERAMIC by Priscilla Hauser and the paints she is using is Folk Art Enamels which are also water base. These enamels need to be baked in a cold oven and bring the temperature up slowly to 350 degrees for abour 30 minutes. These can also be purchased at Michaels, you might even find them at Wal Mart.
The problem with spray paints is going to be the food safe angle.
And if you are looking to reglaze them another color you are dealing with chemical changes in the glazes. Sometimes the commercial pieces are glazed in greenware and by you attempting to reglaze them, you may create an incompatible surface between the clay body and the new glaze. It may create pin holes, bubbles and craters or may even cause the piece to crackle.
If I wanted to start a project such as what you are attempting, I would invest in a few molds and start from the beginning. You may have a market for your idea and then again, you may not. Sometimes things sell really well in some venues and 2 blocks down the street, you couldn’t give the stuff away.
