How to Enrich My Gerbils’ Lives?

Hi,
I have two gerbils called Heidi and Ola and I love them both to bits but I’m always wanting to make new toys for them and to challenge them etc.
I sometimes let them run around my kitchen (it’s very secure by the way – we checked all around and I always watch them) with boxes ad stuff to play with.
In there cage they have 3 levels, plenty of sawdust, toilet rolls, a jam jar, an empty coconut and a ceramic plant pot.
Is there anything I can make that will really challenge them because everything I have is just something to sit in. Heidi loves to climb – is there anything I could make to stimulate this? What household items are suitable for gerbils?

well that is more then enough but if you want to treat them, get a big glass tank and fill it with saw dust, they will love to dig around like moles in the saw dust for a bit of a treat, and try hiding snacks like apple, choc drops or grapes in there for them to find. my gerbil used to enjoy catching and eating flies so maybe giving it some FRESH dead or alive flies

Cookies

They are the standard gift when you want to give someone, something homemade. But you can also make them their favorite treat. Example – Raspberry jam, cheese cake, banana nut bread etc. To save you time, you can even make a giant cookie instead of the smaller ones and personalize it.

Fridge Magnets

Decide whom to give the magnets earlier on, and take their photos. Paste them on a square or circular piece of cardboard paper and stick the photos onto it. Finish by attaching them to a small magnet.

Knit

If you have the time, try to knit a sweater, cap or scarf for the person. Get their measurements and favorite color, and start knitting. They will be delighted that you have taken the time and energy to make them something this wonderful.

Stationery & Envelopes

You need ordinary envelopes and cheap cartridge paper or newsprint. Now go through all your magazines and cut out decorative pictures or illustrations. Stick them to the fronts of the envelopes down the left or across the top. If possible stick matching borders or motifs on to the paper too. If you cannot get them to match, no worries, just try to get illustrations with matching colors.

Personalized Crossword Puzzle

Download free software online to a create personalized crossword puzzle. Save, print and bind them. Get as creative as possible – from clues about relative or friends, to personal interests (like comics, movies, music, etc) to truly test the individual’s knowledge. Make the choice of whether or not to include the answers, which are also available online.

Decorated Jars

Instead of throwing out jars, use them as a beautiful homemade gift. You can use stickers, sequins, glitter etc, which cost practically nothing. Stick them on and tie a gold or silver ribbon on top and your exclusive gift is ready.

Decorated Ceramics

If you are artistic, purchase plain glasses, or ceramic cups and paint them with ceramic paint. You can use stencils, stamps or even hand paint them.

Personalized Frame

Purchase a frame from the dollar store, and personalize it. Using paint or markers, write names, poems, quotes, or meaningful adjectives. Get as creative as possible. This is best if given with a picture already inside the frame.

This is a fun way to show the person that you support their interests and pay attention to the things they like. These are the types of presents that people will remember forever.
