Why do people think that in a small chip clay or ceramic pots and vessels means that it is bankrupt or a tragedy?
People always get angry or feel violated if one of their cookie jars, cups, plates or containers of flour, etc. get a chip in it. The boat still works perfectly, has the same form, and it should not matter. I do not speak of a rare collection of 15th century. Then it might be important. But people still come on a pot chip that costs $ 3, and then discarded as useless. What am I missing?
You miss the fact that we live in a rich country (United States), although many do not see that it is the truth. I mean, I'm so Americanized that at some point I have to dig to remember how things were when I was young. For example, today, whenever receives a new cabinet or a desk, antique furniture literally threw. When I was young, friends and parents queue for antique furniture. Now you see only the students, and only a few students do. Here's another example: cooking utensils. I remember people used to go through battery Cooking from generation to generation. In the old days when a bride gets married, her mother will be cooking pan. It is considered too important and emotional. Now, it's an insult to give his age daughter utensils. Yes, for wives who really know how to cook, they appreciate an old seasoned cast iron skillet, but most brides do not know how to cook and want to get a new set of kitchen utensils and so bright the couple probably did not even know how to use them. What is a safe way to clean soot from ceramic?
We recently lost my aunt in a house fire and today we found some of her ceramic knick knacks in the debris that are still all in one piece, but are pretty covered in soot from the fire. Does anyone know how we can safely remove the soot from the collectibles without harming them? These are very sentimental to us and we don’t want to risk losing something that we could possibly save.
If it really is just soot, and not charring or actually scorching, then you should be able to just put them in warm soapy water just like you do when you do any washing up. A soft gentle brushing, even a toothbrush to get in crevices would be good too.
